چکیده :
Reducing the cogging torque is one of the most important concerns in the design of Permanent Magnet (PM) electrical machines especially in low-speed applications. Reduction of the cogging torque is required for better performance of the machine in starting with low amount of torque ripple and noise. Some of the introduced different ways to reduce the cogging torque in Radial-Flux PM (RFPM) machines cannot be effectively implemented for Axial-Flux PM (AFPM) machines or may increase either manufacturing cost or complexity of the machine structure. This paper investigates an AFPM machine with surface-mounted sinusoidally shaped magnets from the cogging torque point of view. The effectiveness of the employed magnets is compared with other cogging torque reduction techniques such as PM skewing. 3D Finite-Element Analysis (FEA) is used for comparison. FEA Results show a remarkable decrease in the amount of cogging torque by sinusoidally formed magnet. Additionally, the resultant flux density distribution in the air-gap region becomes almost sinusoidal.
